Platform: AutoCAD // Rhino // 3DS Max // MakerBot
I use our introductory 3D modeling unit to familiarize students with the classical orders of architecture. They use AutoCAD or Rhino to draft the two dimensional details. They then use fundamental modeling operations to produce the pedestals, columns, entablatures, and triglyphs.
As an extension, students can use these assets as a ‘kit of parts’ to model buildings and explore lighting, rendering, and 3D printing techniques.
